Jako woke up the next day still feeling tired and dizzy from the overdose of painkillers, had he been a human, Shred said he would have died. He stumbled onto his feet and walked towards the mirror trying not to fall over. He noticed his eyes were still two different colours, the left one red and the right one bright green. They usually changed colour depending on his mood and how much power he had. There was a knock on the door followed by Shred helping him back onto his bed, everything was a massive blur. “Pinch me.” He muttered.

“What?” Shred sat next to him and decided to do what he asked, he pinched him and Jako sighed.

“Guess it's not just a dream then... Sorry for dragging you through that portal.” He lay down on his bed and closed his eyes to blink, but he didn't open them again.

“I'll just leave you to sleep then...” Shred pulled the covers over him and went to join Reiko and the others downstairs. As he walked in the door he noticed Jaden talking to Reiko's mother, she didn't look as welcoming as Reiko did.

“So, we never learnt your name. Care to tell us?” Jaden challenged her in a slightly hostile tone. She laughed and shook her head.

“I thought you were the smart one out of the group Jaden, you should know an angel never gives out their names lightly. It's like a trust card, you have to earn it.” She put down her mug of what looked like tea, deliberately making a loud thump on the oak table. Jaden looked over to Shred and shrugged.

“So Reiko, how was school today?” She immediately changed the subject.

“Good, as in I didn't kill anyone or almost kill anyone this time if that's what you mean...” Reiko looked over at Sis who stood in front of the mirror that Reiko broke a few days ago. Sis looked confused and picked up a shard of the broken glass.

What the hell is wrong with this mirror? It makes me look like something from a Halloween costume.” She held it up so everyone else could see what it did to her. The reflection was clear but she looked different, her eyes where darker and her skin looked a pale grey colour.

“Oh my...” Reiko took it from her hand and held it in front of her own face, the same happened to her but there was something else in it as well. She seemed to be glowing slightly more compared to everything else in the room. Her mother got to her feet and snatched it from her hands and threw it across the room. Shred caught a glimpse of her face before it shattered. She glowed a radiant gold and her skin looked new, she looked like she could have been Reiko's twin sister.

“So that's what a real angel looks like? Why choose to come to earth and look like a forty year old woman with a tonne of plastic surgery?” Shred looked her dead in the eye and thought he caught a flash of the golden light.

“I have to look the part if I'm to raise an Angelus Dae.” She sighed as she burst into a flash of golden light, she changed into what Shred saw in the mirror.

“Half angel, half demon. I thought they were myths. Azazel isn't as idiotic as we thought if he created one of these.” Jaden added, he sounded fascinated which caused Sis to be jealous. She quietly slipped out of the room and went upstairs to check on Jako.

The door was cracked open slightly, she peered in through the gap and laughed. Jako was lying on the floor staring up at the ceiling. He rolled over and sat up.

“Hey, you're Little Sis right?” He smiled but it was a kind of drunk smile, like someone who had been drinking for two days straight.

“Yeah and you're the druggie, Jako?” She laughed again and sat down next to him. “How you holding up in here? It's kind of small and boring... Plus, you're missing all the action downstairs.” She sighed and rested her head in her hands. Jako looked over at her and got to his feet.

“Well let's go downstairs, I heard everything by the way. I know you're jealous of Reiko.” He smiled and helped her onto her feet. He was still dizzy but did his best to look like he was okay. As he went to go into the room where the others were he saw Reiko's mother storming out of the house. Everyone else was left staring after her.

“Shred, we should take everyone back.” Jako reached for his crystal to get hold of Azazel and tell him they were on their way.

“No, we can't go back. Azazel will kill us once he's done with us.” Jaden remembered where he left Larkin and wondered if anyone could help. “Plus, we can't leave Larkin.” He looked at the ground and then to everyone else. They all seemed to agree, especially Reiko. Jako looked to Jaden.

“I can bring him back, I've always had this thing that involves bringing people back, although it didn't work with Asura... It's worth a try.” Jaden nodded.

“Okay let's go.”

When they arrived at the tunnels where Jaden left him, the cover to the tunnels was still sealed shut. Jako blew it off with a blast of electric energy, he felt instantly better now that he was free to use his power. Instead of using the ladder he jumped straight down, landing perfectly on his feet. His different coloured eyes glowed in the dark, his hands illuminated with his flow of blue electricity. He waited for the others to climb down so Jaden could lead him to Larkin. “This way.” Jaden took the lead as he jumped the last few steps. They went through a narrow tunnel, the walls covered with damp moss. Jako touched the wall with his hand, with the electricity. Jaden jumped in shock as it was conducted through the water.

“Oh wow, sorry 'bout that.” He laughed as he lowered his hands to his side. After a few metres the tunnel opened into a cross road of wider tunnels. Jaden led them down the smallest one again until it opened into a hollow cave. Across from them was Larkin's body slumped against a wall. Jako walked over to him and sank his fangs into his neck, feeling the electricity pumping through his veins. “Ugh angel blood is so good.” He licked his lips as he drew back, the other stared at him in horror.

“What the?” Sis looked more confused than the others. “So you're a vampire now?”

“What? No I just have 'special' abilities. I don't even know where they came from, I guess I'm just different.” He laughed and wiped the extra blood from his lips. Larkin twitched slightly and opened his eyes. He looked at Jako and then saw Jaden and Reiko. He slowly got to his feet and rubbed at his eyes.

“How long was I out? I see you've made new friends...” He laughed as Reiko ran up to him and hugged him. He hugged her back and they stood hugging each other for a few minutes.

“I missed you so much Larkin.” A tear fell from her left eye and ran down her cheek. Larkin wiped away her tears and smiled at her.

“Erm, sorry to break your little moment but we should get back to hell now...” Jako cut in and took out his crystal.

“Jako, this better be good news.” Azazel spoke from the crystal.

“Yeah, we have them both and a few extra. Can you re-open the portal where we are or do I have to do it? I overdosed on pills and brought an angel back to life so I'm kinda out of it.”

Good job kiddo. Sure I'll open it, one second.” The crystal cut out and the light of the portal formed in front of Jako. He went through it and the others followed.

“Hey Shred, don't throw anything at me this time or I'll need more painkillers!” He shouted out to him inside the swirling portal. Shred laughed and hit him on the arm as a joke.

“Like I said before, idiot.”

They hit the ground hard when they got to the other side, Azazel deliberately made the portal so they fell onto the floor from above. Reiko began choking as soon as she took in her first breath in hell. The air was thicker and smelled of burning and sulphur, the demons were used to it, even Larkin was used to it from the short time he spent in hell before.

“Looks like someone needs pills.” Jako smiled at Shred.

“Shut up about pills, it's like you're addicted.” He laughed and helped Reiko to her feet after the fall. Jaden looked over to Sis to see if she was okay, her dark grey hoodie was saturated with blood on her right shoulder.

“Is that from the bank?” He analysed the wound closely to see if it was fresh. She nodded.

“Yeah, it's where I got shot after you decided to act like a kid playing a shooting game.” She clutched her shoulder with her left hand and pressed down to stop the excessive bleeding as she followed after Shred and Jako.

The doors to the castle creaked as Jako pushed them open. Sis and Jaden hadn't been to Asura's territory since the fight with Lucifer. The inside was completely different to what they remembered. The walls were no longer cold, stone bricks, they were lined with wallpaper and paintings. It looked like the inside of a modern mansion. “Well I must admit, Assazel has a fabulous taste in décor.” Jaden snorted as he laughed which caused everyone to laugh even more.

“Jaden I heard that.” Azazel stepped out from behind an open doorway. His dark hair covered his eyes, he had stubble around his mouth and on his chin. He wasn't what Sis had imagined him to be. He was a few hundred years older than the real demons, however he looked to be in his late twenties. The strangest thing about him was his eyes, not his personality. His eyes had no colour, they weren't black and they weren't white. They seemed to reflect the light and glow a faint amber, they had no pupils or iris and where just like holes in his face, except they weren’t.

“You must be Little Sis, one of the recruits.” He cleared his throat. “Do you really think staring at my eyes is going to make you understand them anymore?” He waved a large hand in front of her face making her jump in surprise. He smiled at her showing a few of his fangs, it was his way of showing off to new people.

“Um, yeah just call me Sis.” She smiled back.

“No. That's too casual to speak to a king.” He joked and then turned to Reiko. He looked her up and down as if to admire her.

“There's my little princess, Reiko.” He spoke to her as if he was her father, making her uncomfortable. Larkin shifted his feet, digging his fingernails into the palms of his hands. He narrowed his eyes.

Larkin don't” Jaden whispered to him as soon as he noticed his uneasiness.

“Is my dad still in on this project of yours?” Shred stepped forward interrupting Azazel's fake reunion.

“Depends if he wants to be.” He replied.

“Lucifer.” Shred said quietly to himself to summon his father. After a few waited minutes he heard the familiar catchphrase.

“Hello, Pizza delivery!” Lucifer's gaze darkened as he laid eyes on Azazel.

“I guess you're here about the deal?” Azazel looked as if he was trembling slightly, which caused Jako to start laughing.

“I think he's scared of your dad.” He said to Shred who was still listening to their conversation about Reiko and Iceheart.

****

Kimiku rubbed at her left eye and slipped the bandage back over it. The walls of the cave where painted in the blood of northern creatures. She was kneeling in a pool of bloody water, most of the blood was her own. Her hand had been torn open by the claws of a Haemafang, the most feared northern species. They were hybrids of wolves with greater intelligence of humans and demons together. Kimiku popped the cap off a vile of healing potion, the gash on her hand healed within seconds. “Can you pass me some of that?” Iceheart asked, her distant voice echoing around the cave.

“Afraid not, it has to touch skin to repair it. Spirits don't count.” Kimiku looked around for another path to follow that wouldn't lead to dangerous areas with more Haemafangs or even worse creatures. Since the day that Asura, Shred and Iceheart had taken the risk of killing themselves to get back into hell neither of them had seen each other again. Iceheart hadn't even heard from Asura.

“Do you think he's okay?” She kicked a pebble as she walked, they took the path leading southward.

“I assume you're talking about Asura?” She didn't even look up as she spoke to Iceheart. The whole journey was awkward like they had just met. The conversations consisted of small talk and about where to go.

“Yeah, I'm just kinda worried about him. He would have called by now, right?” She sighed an shuffled around in her pocket for the crystal. Nothing. “Oh I forgot, Dark Ice or whatever it is has my crystal and she's probably hunting for my friends about now. That's how it usually goes with these kind of things. You know, the typical 'I'm going to take everyone you love'?” She narrowed her eyes and stopped talking as she realised Kimiku wasn't listening. “Just because I'm not properly here it doesn't mean you can pretend I'm not...” She growled quietly, Kimiku's eyes flickered to her for a few seconds and then back to the path ahead.

“He's going to be fine, you know, maybe he found another girl and is done with you. That's how it usually goes, right?” Kimiku began to walk faster leaving Ice behind like a child refusing to leave the park. Ice noticed something flashing in Kimiku's pocket, it was the crystal. She pulled it out and answered, even from the distance she could tell who it was. Jaden.

“Oh, hey you're actually alive! Thought you would be tired of killing things already and collapsed in a ditch.” Jaden looked disappointed, making Ice laugh. She ran to catch up and looked into the crystal, Jaden's expression changed instantly.

“Oh no Jaden, I don't die. It comes with the immortal package.” She snarled.

“Does sass come with the package or are you just being a bitch?” Ice laughed as joke, Kimiku took it seriously.

“Um, Ice. You might want to come to Asura's territory. We have something to tell you.”

“Actually Jaden, it's Azazel territory now!” A voice in the background spoke, it was unfamiliar. Jaden sighed and moved the crystal so that they could see who said it. A slightly older demon stood against the wooden door way. He waved and grinned showing rows of fangs. His eyes were dark, extremely dark. “Oh hello Icy, fancy seeing you here. How many people do you plan on killing?”

“Nobody, actually. But I could ask you the same question.” She frowned as she didn't hear Asura say anything, or come to the crystal to talk. Jaden moved the crystal again and she thought she saw the familiar face of Satan. “J-jaden... Why is Satan there?”

“Lucifer is our new friend. And he says hi.” Said another unfamiliar voice. Jaden's crystal shook as someone took it from his hand. “Hey, I'm Jako.” He winked jokingly at her making her laugh again. “You seem nicer than Shred's daddy says, you should come visit!” He grinned and brushed his hair out of his eyes, only then did she realise the different colours. Jako looked embarrassed as he noticed her confused face, he handed the crystal back to Jaden.

“Yeah Ice, Kimiku, I guess you're headed in our direction so you might as well join us.” He said as he hung up. Kimiku slipped the crystal back into her pocket and continued in an awkward silence.

***

Since they arrived back in hell there had been nothing to do but stand around and wait. Shred had drank another 4 cans of monster while Jako took the occasional sip whilst waiting for Iceheart and Kimiku to arrive. Sis shuffled awkwardly over to Jaden who was sitting on the end of Shred's bed. “Can we do something while we wait?” She smiled up at him as he brushed hair hair out of her eyes and tucked it behind her ear.

“I don't know how long they'll take to get here but I guess we could...” He turned to Shred and Jako for ideas. “Any suggestions? We're bored...”

“Uh, well I heard amusement parks are amusing...” Shred smirked as he pulled the tab on another can, Jako laughed at the popping sound it made as he opened it.

“Yeah, thanks. You got any dragons around here? I know Asura has a thing for them.” Jaden rolled his eyes and got to his feet, holding a hand out to help Sis up.

“I think you mean 'had a thing for them'...” Shred looked at his feet and took a long sip of his drink. “But yeah, we have loads. Underground and locked away. Go ask Assazel if you're looking to get southern fried by hell fire.”

“Cool.” Jaden shrugged and walked away to find Azazel, Sis trailing behind him.

When they found him, he was in a locked room speaking with Lucifer about their plans for Reiko who was in the room with them. Jaden knocked on the door three times before entering, he raised an eyebrow as he saw Reiko tied down to a chair.

“Really? Was that necessary?” He sighed and leaned against the door frame with a hand in his pocket.

“Apparently so...” Azazel lifted his sleeve to reveal a long gash along his upper arm. Sis looked over at Reiko and smiled.

“You go girl.” She winked jokingly and turned her attention back to Jaden and Azazel's conversation about dragons.

“So... Can we play with the dragons or not?” He asked with sparkling eyes.

“Puppy eyes? Wow, Azazel I think he wants the dragons. Maybe you should consider it.” Sis added to seal the deal. Azazel nodded in agreement.

“Anything for you my fellow half dragon.” He winked with his empty gaze, something about the way he said half dragon seemed intimidating.

“Um... Thanks I guess.” Sis turned away, spinning on her heel and walked away from the room with Jaden following after her as he waved to Reiko.

The chain rattled as Jaden kicked it off the doors to the dragon cage. He swung them open at the same time, he froze as he saw the size of them. They were at least twice as big as the ones that already circled the skies above them. They had long straight tails with a line of serrated spikes, their fangs hung from their jaws like the tusks of an elephant. But the best thing of all was their wings. They seemed to spread for at least fifteen meters each, they were almost transparent enough to see through them like clear glass yet they reflected the light like a mirror. The wings had the same serrated spikes as the tail but smaller and less threatening. “So, who volunteers to be our taxi ride?” His eyes were still gleaming as he grabbed a chain and slung it around the neck of a young pale grey dragon. It snorted and flexed it's wings, but didn't protest as he climbed onto it's back. As he held out a hand to help Sis up the dragon turned it's head to her.

“Why can't you fly yourself? Use your own wings.” The dragon spoke with a clear female voice, only Sis seemed to be able to hear her speaking.

“Where's the fun in that?” She smiled at the dragon and then looked at Jaden's confused face.

“In what?” He raised an eyebrow at her as he pulled her up.

“Oh, must be a dragon thing.” She giggled and settled down in front of Jaden, he wrapped his arms around her, hugging her from behind. The dragon went out of the den into the open land, giving it enough space to take off. She flexed her wings for a few seconds before finally taking off into the sky. They gained height fairly quickly and within minutes they soared high above the tips of the castle. Sis looked down, now the castle was far below them, it looked like a dot on the landscape surrounded by more bigger and smaller dots. She leaned back against Jaden so that her head was resting on his chest. She looked into his sapphire blue eyes they showed her reflection almost perfectly. He gazed back down at her and brushed his hand through her aqua hair. She smiled and took a long blink.

“Well, Little Sis. I have to say something to you.” He smirked down at her with the typical awkward half smile he usually held on his face.

“Go on then.” She smiled back at him.

“I'm in love with you.” He didn't break eye contact as Sis lay on him, lost for words. The only two words she could utter were:

“I know.” She looked away and giggled.

“No you see, that's where you're supposed to say me too, or I love you too Jaden. But I guess that awkwardness is what makes you special, Little Sis.” He pulled her back up into a sitting position and kissed her gently on the cheek, she blushed and giggled again, still lost for words. Instead of saying anything she turned to meet him face to face, as she turned they came almost nose to nose. Jaden lifted his hand, placing it on the back of her head he pulled her in closer.

“Promise me this one thing, okay?” He looked at her, eyes burning a bright blue. Brighter than before. Sis nodded instead of speaking. “Never, and I mean never, leave me as long as we're still alive and breathing.” Without giving her a chance to seal the promise he pulled her in even closer and kissed her gently, this time on the lips. It took her by surprise but she closed her eyes and went with it. It was slow and gentle but worth it, his lips were soft and smooth. She opened her eyes for a second and looked down towards the ground, it was barely visible by now. As she gazed further below she lost her balance, one of her feet slipped off the leather saddle on the dragon, and then the other came loose. Their lips parted as Jaden reached over to steady her. “Hey, it's okay you have your own wings.” He took her hand and she relaxed instantly.

“I was just... Surprised I guess.” She was too embarrassed to look him in the eye.

“I think Ice and Kimiku might be back by now, we should go back...” He pulled on the reins, the dragon gave a disapproving snort as she began to fly lower.

By the time they reached the ground they saw Ice and Kimiku running down the road towards the castle gates, they were being pursued by what seemed to be a whole pack of Haemafangs. Jaden took Sis and ran towards the front gates. “Open the gates!” He yelled over the barking and howling. As they came closer Sis noticed Ice was saying something over and over, but she couldn't hear it yet. Using her dragon senses she strained to hear her and could just catch it.

“I hate you, I hate you, I hate you, I hate you!” Ice glanced over at Kimiku with eyes wider than a full moon. Her breathing was hoarse for a spirit, she felt like she was becoming more human again, not a demon or vampire. As they neared the gates, they slowly opened just enough for them both to run through without letting any of the creatures through with them.

“Close them! Now!” Jaden shouted to the guards but they weren't paying enough attention to him. Jako and Shred ran outside with Larkin trailing weakly behind them. Haemafangs poured in through the gates in groups of 3, they charged at anyone they could grab. Jako climbed onto the rock where he and Shred made the speech about Asura. When he got to the top, he got to his feet and fired rays of electricity at the beasts. His eyes ached and felt like they were being pushed out of the sockets, he caught his reflection in a puddle on the rock. They changed colour like flashing lights. After killing off a few more Haemafangs he began to feel dizzy, the sound of crying and howling was drowned out by a high pitched tone running around his head, it seemed to be getting louder. He held his hands to his eyes and fell to his knees. As he let out a cry of pain, his vision blurred. The last thing he saw was the drooling jaws of one of the wolves. He winced as he felt his chest being torn open, he could feel it's jagged claws tearing through the flesh and the warm black blood flowing out of the wounds. Weakly raising a bruised arm, he grabbed at the Haemafang's neck and twisted, ignoring the pain shooting through the bone as the electricity pulsed through his veins and into the wolf. He felt it burning from the inside out.

“Jako!” Shred shook at his shoulders, he tried to wake himself up but his eyelids felt like they had been welded together. He let out a soft moan and took in a sharp breath of sulphur saturated air. Something in his eyes felt warm, it was getting warmer every second. Finally he opened his eyes, not even blinking them open slowly. They just shot open as if he had woken from a falling dream. He got to his feet, ignoring the pain in his chest, and jumped off the rock into the body of the fight. He took out five wolves at a time with one blast, his veins glowed blue with the electricity and his eyes burned a bright red and green. Iceheart ran over to join him in fighting, she was still searching for Asura in the flood of demons and Haemafangs. Jako looked over at her and realised, he moved closer to her and took her hand, pulling her away from the fight. He looked directly into her faded eyes and explained everything. Her eyes filled with glossy tears but she didn't let them fall. Instead she buried her head into Jako's neck and hugged him. “Awkward...” He stood still not knowing what to do, slightly hoping a Haemafang would stray from the fight to cause a distraction. “Isn't this the part where you fall to your knees and start sobbing uncontrollably because the love of your life just died and you were busy being some freaky demon vamp?” He pulled away from her, still confused. She shook her head and grabbed his weapon. He was left staring after her as she walked away to rejoin the fight. “Girls are way too confusing.” He sighed and summoned a basic rifle to kill off a few more wolves in a quicker time. His eyes were still throbbing and felt as if they were being pulled from the sockets, but he was completely swallowed up in the fight. He quickly grew bored of using the rifle and switched to a more fun fighting technique, the electricity. His veins began to glow bluer this time, it was almost too bright to look at. As he scrambled to the top of the high rock the wolves clawed and snapped as his legs, he ignored the blood seeping from his ankles and kneeled above them firing rays of blue. Eventually the Haemafangs began to retreat, as if they realised they couldn't win the fight. Everyone on the ground started to push them further back through the gates with the help of Jako's rays. Sis looked more triumphant than anyone, her eyes reflecting the blue light like two bright stars.

“Yeah that's right, you better run!” She laughed over the growling and snarling sounds.

Iceheart slashed out with Jako's weapon, cutting a wolf between the eyes not deep enough to do full damage. Her muscles were still weak so she couldn't put her optimum effort into the fight. The wolf snarled and lunged at her, she laughed and stayed put, letting the wolf bite down on her arm. Moments later she realised that she could actually feel the pain, not being able to before as she was just a spirit. But something had changed since the walk back to Asura's territory. She let out a shrill cry of pain. She could feel the beast's fangs scraping the bone in her arm and the flesh being torn away. She tried to fire a blast of ice from her other hand but got no reaction. The wolf lunged again and pinned her to the ground, tearing at her skin which felt as if it was burning from the heat. It feels like something I remember from being human... She thought. “Sunburn!” She cried out accidentally. The heat gnawed at her skin as well as the Haemafang, slowly melting it away layer by layer. Blue light filled her vision and she felt the wolf being knocked away, pulling a mouthful of the skin from her arm with it. She cried out again but could hear nothing. Jako stood over her like a confused puppy, he popped the cap of a small bottle and splashed a liquid over her remaining skin. It felt cold and refreshing but the feeling faded after a few seconds, like a weaker version of the stuff Asura used to get her through the burning sun when they first planned on coming the the underworld. But that was only when she was human. “It doesn't work on me Jako, stop wasting it...” She coughed through the blood that filled her mouth.

“You... You're human!” He dropped the bottle and picked her up in his arms, he carried her into the castle. She began to feel dizzier as he carried her towards his room. By the time he lay her down in his bed she was out cold with her wounds still flowing with blood. Jako grabbed some towels and bandaged them as much as possible to stop the bleeding.

She was back in the emptiness of the place of the endless water, however she wasn't alone. Asura waded towards her with the dullest expression he had ever had on his face. Ice ran towards him like the first time they met in the place. She fell into his arms and explained everything she could about what was happening to her, or what she understood of it. “So, you're a human now. Well I think it's for the best. I should have never dragged you into this mess in the first place.” His dull expression faded and was replaced with relief. Ice rolled her eyes.

Don't give me the 'it's all my fault' crap Asura, it's not going to change anything. You're dead now so I'm going to get Azazel to bring you back.” She raised her voice slightly and stared him right in the eye.

Maybe it's for the best that you go back to your normal life for a bit. Bring Jako or someone to school with you for at least a year and then decide which life you prefer. Don't bring me back into it even if it's the last thing you do.” He sighed and walked away, he began to fade leaving her with no time to reply.

Okay.” She whispered to herself and blinked open her eyes again.

“Jako, we're going to the human world where everyone thinks I'm dead.” She sat up on the bed waiting for a reaction, all Jako did was laugh and nod his head.

“Sounds like a plan.” He smiled.
